St. Petersburg State University invites you to take part in the 51th international conference "Media in the Modern World. St. Petersburg Readings" on 19-20 April 2012.

The conference aims to become one of the most outstanding scientific events of St. Petersburg State University, which is a leading university in Russia.

Conference "Mass Media in the Modern World. St. Petersburg Readings" provides ample opportunities for joint international, inter-university and multidisciplinary research, exchanging experience in studying journalism and mass communications, encouraging international academic cohesion and promoting Russian scientists abroad.

We offer the following forms of working sessions to your attention:

A Panel Discussion - a topical meeting for professionals, including discussions of significant publications, persons from the world of science, media, etc. The panel is headed by two panellists who pick up three or four speakers from the researchers they know as well as initiative applicants and manage the open discussion involving the audience. The discussion of the issues raised is the essential part of the work.

Experts Round Table is a "live" discussion on a relevant topic involving four or five professionals and a moderator. Others present have an opportunity to speak out on the issues as well.

The proposed structure allows to combine academic tradition with a flexible search algorithm and identify the stages of academic growth.

Presentations of New Scientific Publications and Projects

An Awards Ceremony: The Neva Prize – an award for Journalism and Mass Communications Study. The competition for the St. Petersburg State University Neva Prize is held during the preparation for the conference.

Requirements for applications for participation in the conference:

An application goes through two selection stages:

1) brief summaries on the topic of the speech (up to 2 thousand characters), which become available on the conference site on the rolling basis.

2) articles for publication in the conference proceedings selected by the program committee on the basis of summaries (up to 6 thousand characters).

Summaries are accepted until March 1st 2012, and articles are accepted until March 20th 2012.

Proceedings are published prior to the conference.

Please indicate your full name in the application (or the summary), as well as your academic title, degree, job and position, your telephone number, email and fax, and let us know if you need hostel accommodation. Graduate students have to indicate their academic supervisors.

The electronic version of the text should be typed in the MS Word editor, with line spacing 1.5, size 14 without any indentation, aligned to the left, with right margin free, without hyphenation, font Times New Roman Cyr, without tables and charts, notes within the text in parentheses.

Works that do not comply with the rules or are sent after the deadline will not be accepted.

Works sent via fax without electronic version are not accepted.

Applications, summaries and articles should be sent to the Secretary of the Organizing Committee Secretary via e-mail.

Please confirm your need for a hostel and your personal presence at the conference no later than March 1st 2012.

Travel, accommodation and subsistence is to be paid for by the sending party.
