Introduction to News Design

MOOC "Introduction to News Design" has just been announced by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas in association with the Society for News Design.

This five-week massive open online course (MOOC) will be taught by Sara Quinn, President of the Society for News Design (SND), and David Kordalski, Creative Director for Crain's Cleveland Business and past SND president.

The online course is free and open to anyone from anywhere in the world who wants to know more about the principles of graphic design and visual storytelling! It starts June 27, 2016 and ends on July 31, 2016.

At the end of the course, students will come away with knowledge about:

News design platforms: print, digital and mobile

The basics of typography, color and grid for publication design

How to develop strategy for type, color and grid that will support a cohesive brand

How photographs and illustration are perceived by general audiences

Best practices for using varied story forms to engage a reader
